Network Special Projects Manager - Culture (Newark)

ROLE
The Special Projects Manager role plays a central role in assisting the Director of School Support with managing multiple projects as it relates to the culture across the region. The Special Projects Manager organizes all North Star-wide events and manages the enrichment program. In this role, the Special Projects Manager must be able to communicate effectively with various constituent groups and have strong organizational skills. The position serves all North Star Academy campuses and collaborates with the Camden Prep schools. As a member of the School Support Team, this role will report directly to the Director of School Support.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Student Events
    • Coordinate all student events at the network level, including but not limited to: Latino Cultural Celebration, Black History Month Celebration and Mock Trial
    • Work closely with campus operation teams to ensure event preparation runs smoothly
    • Manage relationships with all external venues and build a database of venues that will work for North Star as we grow in terms of both student and staff numbers
  • Enrichment Support
    • Recruit, hire, and train all after school enrichment vendors and teachers
    • Work with campus operation teams annually to put together budget and staffing plan for enrichment
    • Cultivate and manage relationships with summer program partners and update the summer program database
  • External Partnerships
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key external partners (i.e. Legal Outreach, USSF)
    • Secure funding when necessary to implement programs
    • Assist schools, as needed, with the implementation of programs
  • Staff Appreciation and Events
    • Assist in the project management of all staff events at the network level, including but not limited to: the staff retreat, holiday party, bowling event and year-end party
    • Cultivate staff appreciation and culture across campuses, to include efforts not limited to: birthday cards/gifts, North Star swag and award recognitions
    • Coordinate School Support Team culture events, to include but not limited to: quarterly teambuilding events, birthdays, sunshine breakfast
  • Special Projects
    • Develop the strategy and implementation plan for network-wide projects
    • Share responsibility for network-wide activities
    • Special projects as assigned by the Director of School Support and the Chief Operating Officer

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • At least three years of work experience;
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills;
  • Strong customer service approach;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access;
  • Maturity and ability to work independently;
  • Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities is preferred;
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor; and enjoys working with children of all ages
