Regional Director of School Support, Uncommon New York City


Regional Director of School Support, Uncommon New York City – Recognizing our position as Uncommon’s largest region with 23 schools serving nearly 8,000 students in the 18-19 school year, the New York City region of Uncommon seeks a Director of School Support to play an integral role in the development and delivery of regional policies and systems directly related to school management and operations. The Director of School Support will be responsible for designing and executing systematic enhancements that leverage the region’s scale around school operations and improve communication and efficiencies for schools.

The Director of School Support will work closely with the regional Associate Chief Operating Officers and the Director of Strategic Initiatives on the design, execution and implementation of several regional initiatives including but not limited to the following:
  • Student Recruitment and Enrollment
  • Data and Assessment Management
  • School Start Up Processes and Procedures
  • Regional Operations projects including teacher certification, compliance, etc.
  • Helping with the facilitation of regional operations professional development

The ideal candidate will be able to leverage systematic thinking and implementation skills, manage a team, enjoy working in a fast paced environment, is eager to utilize his or her skills to develop solutions to complex issues, is a quick learner, and is comfortable working independently and driving towards a long-term outcome.

  • 4-5 years of experience in school operations or related field;
  • Experience managing a team;
  • Detail-oriented, strong follow-through skills;
  • Ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, and work independently;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access;
  • Displays maturity, flexibility, comfort with ambiguity and a sense of humor;
  • Communicates well with others and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with varied constituencies;
  • Ability to maintain a calm, professional demeanor in the face of competing demands and external pressures;
  • Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities and/or interest in and alignment with Uncommon’s mission; and
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferable.
