The ELL Coordinator is passionate about helping our English Language Learners become proficient in the English language and be able to access their grade-level curriculum. The ELL Coordinator holds primary responsibility for designing and implementing direct ESL instruction and collaborating with teachers to provide English language support in other content areas.
- Support overall program:
- Assist with identification of ELL students at start of school year.
- Administer diagnostic and state mandated assessments of English Language Learners at least twice per year.
- Assist special education teams with development and implementation of ELL plans.
- Evaluate, determine goals for and track progress of individual English language learners, and communicate with faculty, students and families around progress and individual needs.
- Develop systems of reviewing NYSESLAT data and making appropriate program modifications to push growth for ELL students.
- Build family engagement options, and ensure all ELL families have equal access to school communication efforts.
- Support students:
- Develop and implement appropriate and rigorous curriculum to support ELL students.
- Provide direct ESL instruction to small groups of students and/or provide inclusion supports for ELA classes containing ELL students, based on case load.
- Work specifically with ELL students during assigned periods of the day on helping to access general education curriculum and build strong ELA skills.
- Support teachers:
- Attend external professional development and deliver in-house professional development to teachers working with ELL students.
- Advise teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for ELL students by providing feedback and modelling.
- Share best instructional practices for ELL students through informal and formal means.
- Be an active member of the Rochester Prep community:

- Participate in an annual three-week staff orientation and training.
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
- MA ESL certification is required. (Candidates who are in process of acquiring their license will be considered)

- Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
